Obituary

JoEva Jackson, affectionately known as Laura to her family, awakened in the presence of her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 9, 2015. She was born in Wasco, CA, on May 5, 1946, the eighth of thirteen children, to Ben and Roma Ellis. Laura was preceded in death by both parents; siblings, Virgie Richardson, Deroy Ellis, James Ellis, Carolyn Lampkin, Annette Anderson; and sons, Luther Payne and Johnny Green. Laura accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age while living in Wasco, CA. She attended Wasco Elementary and Wasco High where she excelled in track, volleyball and basketball. In 1961, the family moved to Pixley, CA, and she graduated from Tulare Union High School. It was at College of Sequoias where she met her first husband, Robert Rozier. They married, relocated to Cleveland, OH and this union produced three sons; Paul Rozier (Arveta), Jason Rozier (Carmen), and Jeffrey Rozier. Laura was raising her sons as a single parent when she met the true love of her life, Bill Jackson. On July 31, 1982, they were joined in holy matrimony, blending two families into one. Laura was an endearing mother and became a life-long friend to Tia Edmonson, Hollie Eagleeye, Spring Jackson (Antoine) and Robbie Jackson. Laura retired from a career in banking and began her second career as a home health care administrator. It didnt take long to discover her true calling of nurturing and advocating for those who were unable to care for themselves. Because of Lauras compassion and dedication to the rights of others, particularly children, she registered with the Beechbrook Foster Agency...and in no time at all, the Jackson household was brimming with children. Over 30 infants and adolescents were mentored and loved in her care. She served as President of the State of Ohio Treatment Foster Care Community Outreach Division and was duly recognized for her commitment and dedication during 30-plus years of excellent fostering. She loved seniors and children, but what meant more to her than any other title was that of "wife and mother." Adding to their family of 7 children, Laura and Bill became devoted parents to 14 more sons: Ricky Williams, Marvin, Marlon and Richard Bridges, Demetrius and DeVonte Clemons, Gerald Wainwright, Kenny, Demont, James Hurley, JVonn McCollum and Kevin Poindexter. Our hearts are grief-stricken knowing Laura was taken from us far too soon but we are eternally grateful to have had the opportunity to know her and to love her deeply. She leaves to cherish her memory, an adoring husband of 33-years, William Jackson; 21 sons and daughters, mother-in-law, Louise Muh Bragg; siblings, Rev. Benny Ellis (Pearl), Smith Mac Ellis (Annie), Addie Johnson (Oliver), Frederick Paul Ellis, Charlotte-Ane Bailey (Alvin), Esther Ellis-Clement (Paul), Stephanie Nunnally (Jerome); sisters-in-law, Marilyn Rozier (Julius), Barbara Ellis; brother-in-law, Charles Anderson; grandchildren, Kristen, Raymona, Nautica, Jalen, Camree, Jaslyn, Londyn; great-grandchildren, Justice, Yanilah, Niyelle, Bryce, Love and Lyric. Laura was a cherished and devoted godmother to Pamela and Cairah of Houston, TX, and in addition to her New Community Bible Fellowship Church family, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends to celebrate her homegoing, her life and her incredible legacy.
