IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe Alfred
Gamboa
May 21, 1954 – March 7, 2014
Joe was born in Mxico to Piedad Aguirre and Apolonio Gamboa on May 21, 1954. Joe grew up in Tehachapi, Ca where he attended Tehachapi High School. He graduated with the class of 73. He met his wife Kathy at Bakersfield College. They celebrated their 40th Anniversary last August. Joe worked for Belridge Oil Co. and then Shell, now Aera, for 17 years. He was disabled in 1991 with severe back condition. He went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2014 and was 59 years old. Joe enjoyed reading his paper, watching sports, barbecuing with family and friends. In fact, he could be counted on to bring the meat. He loved animals and rescued our little stray dog Scruffy, in which he loved to take long walks. Prior to his disability, he enjoyed golfing, swimming, and going to the gym. His favorite place to visit was the beach and he dreamed of having a home at the coast. Joe could be counted on for his generosity, his good humor, and long talks with his best friend Lupe. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. They relished their trips to the Dollar Store with Papa when they were little. Joe fondly talked about playing football with the Tehachapi class of 73. He could talk for hours about the good old days. Joe is survived by his wife Kathy and his two children Lynn Larson married to Jason Larson of Bakersfield, John Gamboa married to Gina Gamboa of Bakersfield; his parents, Apolonio and Piedad Gamboa of Bakersfield; siblings, Ismael Gamboa of San Diego, Octavio Gamboa of Los Angeles, and Naomi Schneider married to David Schneider of Oak Harbor, WA; his grandchildren Broderick, Garrett, Peyton, and Kamea; his nieces and nephew, Augustino, Katelyn, McKenzie and Jullanar. Our family would like to thank Dr. Heidrick for his kindness and support. A special thanks goes to Shafter Missionary Baptist Church for their prayers and love. Joe will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. We will miss your smile and generous heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shafter Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing is Sunday March 16th 12-5pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. Memorial service is Monday March 17th 9am at Peters Funeral Home . Graveside following Memorial Service at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park.
