Joe Carl Duke went home to be with his Lord on August 30, 2007. He was born to Winsea and Dona Duke on March 29, 1932, in Stratford, Oklahoma. He married Joy Adams on June 9, 1954, in Oklahoma, and the couple came to Wasco in 1957, and they moved to Shafter in 1971. Joe worked for Wasco Elementary School District as a Maintenance Supervisor for 36 ½ years. He also enjoyed restoring old cars and tractors; he could take something old and fix it to be as good as new. Joe loved his family, his kids and grandchildren and they loved him right back. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church of Rosedale. Donations may be made in his name to the Cornerstone Church Building Fund. Joe was preceded in death by his son, Kenny; his parents, Winsea and Dona. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joy; daughters, Linda and Karen; siblings, Juanita Wood, Daryl and Robert Duke; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews; other loving family members and friends. A graveside funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 9am, for Joe Carl Duke, age 75, of Shafter, who passed away August 30, 2007, in Bakersfield. Pastor Tem Mattox of the Cornerstone Church will officiate the service and interment will follow. A visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Monday, September 3, 2007, from 2pm to 8pm.
