IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe
Dominguez
June 28, 1947 – August 16, 2025
Joe Dominguez, age 78, of Wasco, California, passed away on August 16, 2025. Born in Pecos, Texas, on June 28, 1947, Joe's life was marked by his service, dedication to family, and his unwavering willingness to help others.
Joe's family moved to Bakersfield, California in the 1950's where Joe grew up. Joe married Yolanda Benavente shortly after graduating East High School, and their 33-year marriage was blessed with three children—Jonnie, Christopher, and Craig.
A skilled plumber by trade, Joe owned JD Plumbing in Bakersfield for many years before working for the County of Kern and Wasco State Prison. There, he met Vickie, whom he married in 2002. He ultimately transitioned to a vocational instructor at the California State Prison in Blythe, passing on his knowledge until his retirement.
A Vietnam veteran, Joe was honorably discharged from the Air Force. He was a lifelong Dodgers fan, enjoyed watching his stepsons, Matt and Marc, race stock cars at Bakersfield Speedway, leapt at any chance to visit a casino, and was found most every Tuesday playing golf with his buddies.
Joe was survived by his wife of 23 years, Vickie; daughter Jonnie and husband Paul Reyes; son Christopher and wife Laura; son Craig; stepson Michael Wankum; stepson Matthew Wankum and his wife Tiffany; stepson Marcus Wankum and wife Kayla; brother Ernest and wife Juanita; sister Emma; sister Dora; and many nieces and nephews. His grandchildren—Liliana Reyes, Adori Reyes, Emilio Reyes, Phineas Dominguez, Madison Dominguez, Conner Dominguez, Madison Rogers, Mackinley Wankum Lopez (Nick), Millicen Wankum, and Carlee Wankum—and great-granddaughter Palmer brought him much joy. He was also loved dearly by his best friend, Jaime.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eszequiel, Sr., and Soleme; and two brothers, Eszequiel, Jr. (Zeke) and Eusebio (Sal).
Joe's memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives he touched. He was known for his generosity and his readiness to lend a helping hand. Whether fixing, building, or simply sharing a kind word, Joe's spirit of service and love will continue to inspire.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Joe's memory.
