Obituary

Jimmy Ray Boen was born October 5, 1942 in Bakersfield, Ca. to Nettie and Everett Boen. Jimmy is the 3rd child of 8. He gained his angel wings on January 2, 2021 from complications of Covid-19 and after many years of suffering from Alzheimers. Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Boen; Daughters, Vicki Slater and husband Rod Sr., and Jennifer Boen-Padilla; 6 grandchildren, Jasmine, Rod Jr., Anna Slater, Colby, Ainsley, and Braden Boen-Padilla. Jim treasured his grandkids; 5 Sisters, Kathy Seale (Kenny), Sharon Howard (Dale), Nelda Combs (Calvin), Patty Spinks (Roy), and Bonnie Taylor (George); along with 1 brother, Jerry Boen (Valerie); and many nieces, nephews, special in laws, and friends. Jim came from a large, loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Everet and Nettie Boen and 1 brother, Loyal Ray Boen. Jim graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1960. At the age of 15 he began working at the Bakersfield Californian. He started as an apprentice and eventually became a Photo Engraver. He met and married Sharon Hock in Bakersfield on February 29th, 1964. In 1966 and 1969 daughters Vicki and Jennifer were born. He spent most of his working years in the oil industry operating the pumps in the hills of Taft. He retired from the Taft Correctional Institution where he maintained the powerhouse. Jim was dedicated to his daughters and anything they were involved in. Both girls became involved with baton twirling and then softball. Jim spent hours upon hours researching the game of Softball so he could become the best teacher/coach. Other hobbies included camping, fishing, vacationing with family and partying with friends. He bled Dodger blue and his love of the game continued through his grandchildren where he never missed a game. Some of Jim's happiest moments was sharing a glass of wine with his precious wife on the patio. Following his retirement, Jim and Sharon started a small woodworking/craft business. Jim was very creative and Jim and Sharon's holiday decorations can be found throughout Kern County. We will miss his fun, loving laughter, and his great sense of humor. Although Jim is gone, he will never be forgotten and missed by many. You are so special to all of us. Rest in Peace There was a time when I was free, to live my life in harmony. Before the illness that blighted me, swept faces and places from my mind, people I loved from my memory. Remember me as I used to be, think of me. Remember my smile, the love we shared, linger awhile. I am at peace now, I am me, at rest for all eternity. -Author Unknown The Boen family thanks you for your kind remembrance of Jimmy.
