IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jessie Donald
'Don' Guinn
December 26, 1930 – February 9, 2015
Jessie Donald (Don) Guinn died of natural causes on February 9, 2015 in Bakersfield, California. He was 84 years old. Don was born on December 26th, 1930 in Maud, Oklahoma to Ester and A.E. Mose Guinn. Don had tremendous love and respect for his mom who at a very early age became a single mom and raised Don and his sister Ferny alone on a small farm in Oklahoma through the 1930s and 40s. Don worked hard throughout his life and appreciated everything he had. Don graduated from Maud High School and in 1951 married Othel Root. They had two sons, John and Ollie and in 1957 he moved his family to Taft, California because there was no work in Oklahoma. He didn't have a job waiting for him in Taft but it didn't take long to find work in the oil fields. He eventually went to work for Standard Oil and in 1960 moved to Lost Hill where they lived for almost 40 years. Don loves the Lord Jesus Christ and if you were ever introduced to him it didn't take long for him to determine your faith and witness Christ to you if he thought you needed it. He was a deacon in the Missionary Baptist church and built a church in Lost Hills. He was involved in missionary work and was generous with his time and resources. He loved the outdoors and especially loved to fish and hunt. He always had a joke and didn't mind playing one on you if he thought you were vulnerable. He was a good dad, a good man and a good neighbor. He will be missed. Don is survived by his two sons, John Guinn of Shafter and Ollie Guinn of Bakersfield; three grandchildren Matthew Guinn, Adam Guinn and Zachary Guinn all of Bakersfield and, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Othel and sister Fern. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday February 13th at the Shafter cemetery. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so Thursday February 12th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Peters Funeral Home, 844 E. Lerdo Hwy., Shafter
