Obituary

Jessie Carrasco Diaz Franco, who resided in Kern County for 74 years, died at her current home in the San Fernando Valley, Tuesday the 27th of February, 2007. She is survived by her daughter Linda Leal and son Dennis Diaz as well as her grandchildren; Theresa, Miguel, Del-Lisa, Marshall Victor, and Amedee; and great-grandchildren; Joaquin, Adam, Julie, Lindsey, Tawny, Marshall, Amedee, Luc, and Lina. She is preceded in death by her mother, Concha Soria, (a pioneer of La Colonia Mexicana of Shafter, California) and her son Marshall R. Diaz, of Echo Park. Jessie was politically involved as a Democrat and served the community for 60 years in a variety of positions. She worked as a full-time volunteer on campaigns such as Richard Ybarra, Dean Florez and former Governor Gray Davis among others. She received the "Good Donkey" award in 1998 from the Kern County Democratic Central Committee. Jessie was also involved in the Mexican-American Political Association, Comite Mexicano De Beneficencia No. 6, La Colonia Reunion Committee, Las Fiestas Inc. and the Southwest Voter Registration. Jessie graduated from Shafter High School as the only Mexican-American in the class of 1940. Jessie was an employee of Kern County for 27 years serving at both the Kern County Beal Library and the Kern County Veterans Service Department. Visitation were held Sunday, March 4th from 3-6pm at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was Sunday, March 4th at 5pm.
