Jesse was born on March 20, 1923, in Alma, Arkansas, to Omer and Ruthie Thompson. He moved to Corcoran in 1948 and to Shafter in 1999. He married Syble Lou Chatman on June 8, 2000. He was a hardworking man who contributed to supporting the family from the age of 7, working as a farm laborer. He enjoyed yard work and gardening and puttering around the house. When he wasn't busy at home he volunteered his time and energy to the Shafter Walker Senior Center. Jesse was preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Marie (2006). He is survived by his wife, Syble; sons, Jesse Ray Thompson and wife, Martha, Bobby Thompson and wife, Nancy, Jerry Lee Thompson and wife, Donna all of Arkansas, and Bill Thompson and wife, Mary of Florida; daughter, Carolyn Sue Givens and husband, Randy of Oklahoma City; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Peters Funeral Home on Friday, July 6, 2007, at 2pm, for Jesse G. Thompson, age 84, of Shafter, who passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, in Arvin. Pastor Boyd Shepherd of Covenant Life Church of God (Smith's Corner) of Shafter officiated at the service; interment was private.
