Visitation will be held from 2-8pm with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm on Tuesday April 15, 2008, for Jesse H. Alfaro, age 76, of Bakersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30am on Wednesday April 16, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Jesse was born March 11, 1932 in El Paso, Texas to Gilbert and Juana (Hernandez) Alfaro; shortly after the family moved to Bakersfield. Jesse retired from the U.S. Navy after working as a storekeeper for 20 years, he then continued as a reservist for another 10 years. Jesse was a reserved man and kept mostly to himself. He was however a devoted son and would very frequently visit his mother before she passed. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Abbey Contreras. He is survived by his son Rudy Contreras; a daughter Cora Tarcha and her husband Mark, of Santa Clara; brothers Gabe and Joe Alfaro; sisters Carmen Hernandez and Esabel Ereno; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
