Jenny Bell Howard was born in Austin, Texas on July 6, 1929 to Nettie E. (Randell) and Fred J. Turney. She was married to Richard Carl Howard for 61 years before preceding her in death. They came to Shafter in 1968 and stayed for 10 years. She held small seasonal jobs here and there with the local agriculture farms, but her family remembers her as a loving, caring and attentive housewife. Jenny had many hobbies and was well known for her jewelry shopping and gardening. She wouldn't leave a treasure behind in a yard sale without negotiating the "lowest" price possible, no matter how long it took. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Jenny is preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Carl Howard (2007) and grandson Richard Allen Brown (1973). She leaves behind her beautiful daughter Betty Jean and husband, Clifton Brown; grandson, Stephen Rogers and great-grandchildren Riley and Abby. A Graveside Funeral Service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at Shafter Memorial Park on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10am, for Jenny Bell Howard, age 80, of Bakersfield, who passed away October 17, 2009 in Bakersfield. Visitation will be at Peters Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday October 21, 2009, from 5pm to 8pm.
