Jeffery Scott Hughes was born January 26, 1965 in McFarland, CA to Jack and Shirley Hughes and passed away May 7, 2022 in Bakersfield, CA. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in McFarland CA, where he played football and ran track. He was employed with the State of California at Wasco State Prison as a locksmith for 18 years. In August of 2006, he went on a blind date with Polly Kelley and after several years of dating, they joined their two families on December 30, 2013 in front of family and friends at El Chorro's botanical garden. El Chorro was the same place that Jeff, his family, and all his friends would visit every year at Christmas, to reminisce on the year prior, and look forward to the year that was to come. Jeff was father to Logan Hughes, McKenna Kelley, Madison Hughes, Connor Kelley and Ashlyn Kelley. He was his children's biggest fan; you could always find him at a volleyball, basketball, football or a baseball game. He spent his Friday nights watching his girls cheer on the sidelines and helped out in the booth during the games. He also made sure to text his girls embarrassingly bad dad jokes just to show them that he was thinking of them. He loved to cook on his smoker, go on food adventures, watch the Dodgers and Florida State Seminoles and loved to go camping. His favorite part of camping was just sitting around the campfire and visiting with friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Hughes and sister Kimberly Hughes. He is survived by his father Jack Hughes, his wife Polly Kelley Hughes and his children Logan Hughes, McKenna Kelley, Madison Hughes, Connor Kelley and Ashlyn Kelley. He was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild in September.
