Jefferson Garland Gillum September 13, 1935 – November 22, 2016 Jeff was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on September 13, 1935 to Noble and Bessie Gillum and passed away on November 22, 2016 in Arvin, California at the age of 81. Jeff was always a hard worker and started working at the age of 14 after his mother passed away to help his family. They moved to Arvin in 1952. During his life he worked at various farms and as a mechanic for San Joaquin Tractor Company. He enjoyed camping, fishing and prospecting for gold. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Bessie Gillum and his brother, Johnnie Gillum. He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Alice Gillum (Arvin, CA), his sister, Charlotte Angeli (Danny)- (McAlester, OK), sister-in-law, Grace Kelly (Joe) – (Porum, OK), his children Karen Frieson (Mike) – (Bakersfield, CA), Sandy Welch (Jim) – (Bakersfield, CA), Letha Benhardt (Barry) – (Bakersfield, CA) and Pat Owens (Tim) – (Arvin, CA). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Sara (Shawn) – (Bakersfield, CA), Michael (Ashley) – (Topeka, KS), Stacy (Sammy) – (Bakersfield, CA), Jamie (Patrick) – (Bakersfield, CA), Tasha (Derek), Liz, Andie (Fresno, CA), Chris (Brittany) – (Bakersfield, CA), Kyle (Bakersfield, CA) and six great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at the First Southern Baptist Church in Arvin on Friday December 2, 2016 at 11am. He will be laid to rest at the Arvin Cemetery.
