Jean Burns Ohanneson was born April 23, 1922 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Atholl and Charles Burns. When Jean was 16 years old the family moved to Shafter, California. Jean graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Psychology and then returned to Shafter to build a life with her soul mate and best friend, John. Jean spent her life surrounded by her children; daughter, Janie and husband Dan John; sons, Joe, Jeff and wife Cheryl; her grandchildren, Tamara and husband Marco Alicea, Kelly and partner Carmen Lopez, Ty, Ali and husband Robert Garner; her five great grandchildren; her sister, Barrie Buttermore; and her nieces, Kathy and Wendy. Jean was a dedicated wife for 70 years and loving mother who created a warm, inviting home for family and friends. She enjoyed summers in Santa Barbara, weekly table games, country drives in search of beautiful wildflowers, and the tropics of Hawaii. Jean passed peacefully at home on May 30, 2015 and will be missed by all who knew her. She will always be remembered as a lady of grace and teacher to many. A memorial service will be held on June 6 at 2pm, at the Congregational Bible Church, 430 East Tulare Ave., Shafter.
