IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janie -
Link
March 28, 1933 – July 6, 2009
Janie Irene Link was born March 28, 1933 in Luxora, Arkansas into a family of 10 to Charlie McKinley Armstrong and Iva Lucy Carson Armstrong. Janie passed away on July 6, 2009; and is fondly remembered for being caring, loving and selfless especially when it came to taking care of family who were ill or in need of comfort. Being married for fifty years to Loyd Earl Link and raising their four children was her passion and life's work. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and loved the beach. In addition, Janie loved people and so she spent her young married years as the "Avon Lady" and later worked at Stringham's Shafter Drug Store before retiring from the Broadway in Ventura. She also helped Loyd manage Lemonwood Retirement Community in Ventura. But the work she was most passionate about was being part of the Junior Miss Program in Shafter and helping to enrich the lives of young girls. She was also a proud graduate of the Ventura Senior Police Academy. Janie was preceded in death by her mother and father; 3 brothers, Cecil, Leo and Gene Armstrong and sister Clara Preston. Those who are left to cherish her memories are her loving husband Loyd Link; sons Craig Link of Ventura CA and Martha Winegar of Ventura CA, Victor Link of Irvine CA and Christine Handel of Corona CA, Vincent and wife Rita Link of Parker CO; daughter Lisa and husband Rob Hiestand of Bakersfield; grandchildren Leann Link of Parker CO, Vincent Link of Bakersfield, Christian Link of Corona CA, Evan Link, Rachel Link of Ventura CA and Marissa Hiestand of Bakersfield; she was expecting her first great-grandchild in December; brothers Garland and wife Jo Armstrong, Clyde and wife Joy Armstrong, Leslie and wife Pam Armstrong; sisters Maudie and husband Marvin Graves, Jewel and husband Gene Lytle and Martha Winegar of Ventura CA. Special thanks to the staff at Californian Care, Optimal Hospice (Karen and Celeste) and Lifehouse Parkview (Katie) who provided care to Janie during her last days. A memorial service will be held Monday July 13th at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter. Visitation from 9 to 11 am and service at 11 am; Interment at Shafter Memorial Park.
