James Turney went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2011 after enduring a 31/2 year battle with cancer. He was born to Fred and Nettie Turney on June 8, 1933, in Sherman, TX. James was a Jack of all trades, from working in the cotton gin, to hauling hay and working in the oilfields. At one time he owned Big T's Trucking, but later went back to work in the oil fields for Nabors drilling until he retired at the age of 68, he then moved back to Arkansas until he passed away. James is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nettie Turney; four brothers, one sister, one granddaughter, and two great granddaughters. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; four children and four step-children, Cecil and Terry Turney, Pam and Richard Frank, Steve and Karen Turney, Fred and Trundi Turney, Bobby and Shirley Adams, Floyd and Lisa Adams, Dwayne and Amie Woods, and Julie Patino; grandchildren, Jimmy, Renee, Kelly, Sarah, Robbie and wife Angie, Becky, Jason and wife Jennifer, David and wife Chassittie, Crissey, Angela, Steven, Wendy, Stephanie, Dakota, Mercedes, Brandy, Taysia, Robert, Richard, Crystal, Tiffany, Asia, Bobby, Ashley, Amanda, Ell, and Gavin. James also leaves 4 brothers, Joe, Travis, Chris, and Herman Turney; 3 sisters, Lois Mahurin, Freda Mae McNatt, and Berthie Taylor; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by many. James was an avid animal lover and leaves behind his beloved pets: 6 dogs, Baby Hank, Rocky, Ted Buddy, Heidi, Roxanne and Buster; 3 wild cats; and his pygmy goat, Miss Agness. A graveside service for James will be held at Shafter Memorial Park (18662 Santa Fe Way at Burbank, 93263) on Thursday, January 27, 2011 beginning at 11:00am. Pastor Nancy McClain of Full Gospel Temple in Farmersville will officiate the service.
