A chapel service was held at Peter Funeral Home for James Allen Terry, age 72, on Monday, October 11, 2006, at 1pm. Pastor L. V. Lawson officiated. Interment followed at Shafter Memorial Park. Serving as casket bearers were, Kevin O'Neill, Darrell Darnell, Shannon Hurst, Deion Bailey, Sylvis Riddle and Darrell Songer. James Terry was born on April 7, 1934, to U. V. and Virgie Terry, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The family came to Shafter in 1936, and he attended the local schools. He married Alice Harris in Las Vegas in January of 1963. James was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator in construction for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and loved to fish. James was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Bailey in July '96. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alice; step-sons, Sylvis and wife, Monica Riddle of Wasco, Darrell and wife, Kairen Songer of Shafter, Donald Riddle of Delano; daughters, Debbie and husband, Kevin O'Neill of Bakersfield, Sheila and husband, Darrell Darnell of Shafter; step-daughters, Pat Stamback of King City and Rhonda Hurst of Shafter; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
