Obituary

Dr. James C. O'Loughlin, a 15-year resident of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree, died of a heart attack Jan. 26, 2009, at Desert Regional Medical Center. He was 86 years old. The son of James C. O'Loughlin and Florence Reardon O'Loughlin, he was born and raised in San Francisco and attended college there. During World War II, he was an Army lieutenant while serving in Japan and the Philippines. He went to Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in his late 30s and practiced his profession for 50 years. He loved his profession, but loved the people more. He practiced in Fontana and Eureka for 18 years and then in Yucca Valley. Dr. O'Loughlin's passions were chiropractic, golf and flying. While in Yucca Valley, he loved to have coffee with his pilot friends at Del Taco every morning.. His favorite people were servers at local restaurants; he loved those who served at Carrows, Denny's in Twentynine Palms, the Western Coffee Pot in Landers, the Carousel Cafe in Twentynine Palms and the Chinese restaurant in Lucerne. He had many friends from his church life in this area, having attended Church of the Nazarene, Southern Baptist, Valley Community Chapel in Yucca Valley and most recently, Palms Southern Baptist in Twentynine Palms. His family extends thanks to everyone who gave Dr. O'Loughlin a ride during the past year; this must be a large number, since it took about eight rides a day to get him to all his favorite places. Dr. O'Loughlin is survived by his wife of 18 years, Bobbie O'Loughlin of Joshua Tree; sisters Virginia Varner of Phoenix, Ariz., and Betty O'Loughlin of Henderson, Nev.; brother Charlie O'Loughlin of Modesto; daughter Dr. Cindy O'Loughlin Beamer of Corvallis, Ore.; stepsons Anthony Coleman and family of Reedley and Allen Coleman and family of Fayetteville, Tenn; six grandchildren; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by sister Mary Coleman of Windsor in 2000 and brother Tommy O'Loughlin of Graham, Wash., in 1999. A celebration of life will be at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in Palms Baptist Church at 5285 Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms, Pastor David Squyres officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission House at Palms Baptist Church.
