Obituary

James Eldon Leak, 97, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away on Thursday November 15, 2018. Jim was born on October 21, 1921 in Flora, IL to the late Floyd and Elsie Mae Leak. He attended local school in Flora, IL graduating from high school in 1940. One month after his graduation he hitch hiked to St Louis and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in July 1940 at Chanute Field. After attending several training schools he ended up becoming an Instruments Technician and was stationed at Minter Field in Shafter where he met the love of his life, Davied Pearl Grumbles, on a blind date. After serving 2 years in Rattleston, England as an Instruments and Bomb Site Technician on B-17's, Jim returned home to marry Davied on November 16, 1945 in Shafter, CA. They lived in Bakersfield and raised a family together for 66 years until Davied's passing in March 2012. Jim is survived by four children, Michael (Aurora), David (Linda), Kendall (Tammy), and Kerry, four grandchildren, Erin, Shelly, Kristina, and Sean, and three great grandchildren, Morgan, Ava, and Harper. After the Army Air Corp, Jim worked for Sears where he retired after many years. In retirement Jim kept busy repairing clocks and watches for several customers in Bakersfield.
