Weitz
August 24, 1908 – January 27, 2008
Born Hitchcock, OK to JP and Mary Weitz. The second of 5 children he came to Shafter in 1919 and farmed on the corner of Beech and Orange. Grandparents George and Mary Fox came with them and settled south of Kattenhorn's place on Shafter Hwy. Ike attended KCUHS and graduated in 1928. He drove the school bus that drove all over Kern County gathering children for school. He worked in the oilfields in Long Beach and drove for Krieger Bros. before serving in the armed forces from 1942-45. He returned to Shafter to begin what was to become a life long career of farming for assorted families; i.e., Em H. Mettler and Dan Weitz. He ended his career at the age of 90 while working for Wayne Arnold and made his mark in the Guinness Book of World Records. Ike was preceded in death by his parents, J. P. and Mary Weitz; 4 siblings, Rachel Neuman, Dan Weitz, Emma Ditmore and Ruby Neuman. Mourning his passing are Norma Hinsley, Shirley Walde, Harold and Jim Neuman, Donna Mixon, Dorothy Tudor and Terry Ditmore, and numerous other nieces nephews and great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service was held Sat. Feb. 2 at Peters Funeral Home at 1 p.m.
