Miller
October 12, 1914 – January 24, 2015
Ira L. Miller was born October 12, 1914, in Brinkley, Arkansas, one of four children born to Alvin and Lena (Wilburn) Miller. He was raised and received his education in Brinkley and was a star football player at Brinkley High School. Ira married Geraldine Adah Shell in Herber Springs, Arkansas on May 10, 1937, and they continued to live in Arkansas until World War II. During the war years, he moved to San Francisco where he worked in the shipyards as part of the war effort. In 1945, the family moved to Wasco, and Ira began his 35 year career with Belridge Oil Company. He was a carpenter and helped build and maintain the company housing. Ira was preceded in death by his beloved wife Geraldine who passed away June 17, 2000, after celebrating 63 years of marriage; his son, Ira Gerald "Jerry" Miller; parents, Alvin and Lena; infant brother; Ernest Miller, sister, Ethelyn Rosemand Miller Floyd; and brother, Paul Elmo Miller. Ira is survived by his daughter, Joan Miller; 4 granddaughters, Blanca Luz Miller Anderson, Monique Miller Carte, Vanessa Marie Miller, and Regina Marie Miller; 3 great grandsons, Christopher Anderson, Nicholas Anderson and Michael Anderson. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 30, at 10am at the First United Methodist Church, corner of 7th and Birch in Wasco for Ira L. Miller, age 100, of Wasco who passed away January 24, 2015 in Bakersfield. Pastor Alex Kambe will officiate the service, and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco on Thursday, January 29, from 4pm to 8pm.
