IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ina Mae
Smith
May 13, 1941 – April 24, 2018
Ina Mae Smith, 76, of Shafter passed away in Bakersfield on Tuesday, April 24th. Smith leaves behind her husband of 57 years A.D. Smith of Shafter, son Ruben Clingan and wife Debbie of Idaho; daughter Diane Givens and husband Tony of Bakersfield; Granddaughters Rebecca Miller (Roy), Candie Springer (Steve), Amber Tracy (Carl Robinson), Heather Eldredge (Justin), Grandson Chad Givens (Venessa), and 15 great grandchildren, one brother Leeman Parker (Oli Mae) of Wasco, one uncle, Frank Parker of Taft and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Smith worked many jobs over her lifetime – from chopping cotton when she was a young mother to delivering the local newspaper as a grandmother. But the job she loved the most was playing games with her great grandchildren. She had a very playful competitive spirit and did not lose very often. The kid's new grandma was going to make them work hard to beat her. Ina loved her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren. Ina and her husband A.D. were always together. Their favorite pastime was eating out and in years past going to Lemoore to spend some nickels. You could see them at lunch or early evening at their local hangouts – Don Pepe's Restaurant or China Cuisine. They would usually be at one or the other unless they stopped at Hodels while they were in Bakersfield. Ina loved the Lord and walked with Him all her life. She loved going to church and singing the old hymns. In the evenings at home if they weren't on their front porch feeding the birds, they would be in their favorite chair listening to Country Family Reunion on the television. The past few years were hard on Smith as she struggled with health issues but she never missed a moment to love her family and her husband. She was a scrapper and did things her way and on her time and the proof was in the last hours of her life. Ina Mae Smith was preceded in death by her son Jesse Carr, her mother Lillian Mae Parker and father William Earl Parker, brother William Parker and sister Vera Jean Hobbs. Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 10 a.m. at Peters Funeral Chapel in Shafter. Pastor Jim Glasco of 7th Standard Church, Shafter officiated and Pastor Beverly Perello of Shafter Home Fellowship Church assisted. The family would like to thank all those who called, came to the services, sent flowers and food for their kind words and most of all for their prayers. Your love was a tremendous source of strength. Also thank you to Peters Funeral Home for being so kind and gracious through all the preparations and decisions.
