IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Imogene
Cox
November 22, 1922 – May 11, 2009
Born the only child of Lory & Ella Hopper in Lexington, Oklahoma on November 22, 1922. Jean first came to California in June 1941. Then lived in Augusta and Columbus, Georgia during WWII while her husband Doice was in the service. She owned and operated Jean's Market in Arvin with her son Gerald from 1963 to 1981. Then moved to Arizona in early 1981 and came back to Arvin in late 1999 due to her health. She suffered from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis for many years. Our mom never met a stranger, would give anyone her last dollar and missed the people at the grocery store but didn't miss the work and long hours. Mom and Dad enjoyed the time they spent in Arizona, going to Laughlin and fishing. Jean is survived by her husband of 68 years, married on May 2, 2009, Doice(Buck) Cox; sons Gerald Cox, Gary Cox and his wife Holly; daughter Loveta and husband Delmer Sands all of Bakersfield; daughter Sequeta and husband Doug Dees of Nevada; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. A very special thank you to our niece and daughter Karen Cox for all her hours of care and love she gave to our mother, wife and grandmother. Also we would like to thank all the staff from Optimal Hospice. A very special thank You for the love and care that Cricket Eads of Optimal Hospice gave our mother and father. They both loved her very much. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Optimal Hospice in the name of Imogene Cox. Visitation will be held at Arvin Funeral Home on Thursday May 14 from 2-8pm with a graveside service to be held on Friday at the Arvin Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
