On December 6, 2021, Ilene Waldroup, loving mother, grandmother, and Auntie passed away at the age of 91. Ilene was born in Wasco on Sept. 30, 1930, to Roy and Ellen Denman. She and little sister Patricia were raised in Los Angeles. Ilene married Will Nichols in 1949 and had three children, Stanley, Sharon, and Gai. She worked as a dental assistant for many years. In 1968 she married Lonnie Waldroup. They owned a horse ranch before moving to a small farm in Shafter and they enjoyed many years raising goats, cows, horses, dogs, and grandchildren. Widowed in 1992 she turned to her church family and found a love for traveling and bluegrass music. She loved playing dominos and cards with the ladies, planning bluegrass "hoots" and parties with her church friends. She worked in the church kitchen preparing the Wednesday night meals and never missed making the coffee for her Sunday School class. Lovingly known as "Moo", she adored every child that crossed her path. Ilene loved the Lord and we know she will be waiting for us just inside the narrow gate, what a glorious reunion it will be. Ilene is survived by her daughters, three generations of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00AM on December 20, 2021 in the Fellowship Hall at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave., Bakersfield.
