Ildefonsa Valdez Martinez was born January 23, 1936 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Maria de Los Angeles and Manuel Valdez, one of four children. She married Arnulfo Martinez in Mexico and they migrated to California to find work and a better life. Arnulfo was a farm labor contractor and they worked for many of the farmers in the valley. Ildefonsa retired after working 30 years. Ildefonsa is survived by her daughter, Armandina Guzman and husband Enedelio of Shafter; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband of over 50 years who passed away in 1987; son, Ricardo, who passed away in 2006; her parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Holy Rosary will be recited Monday, May 17, at 6pm at Peters Funeral Home for Ildefonsa Valdez Martinez, age 74, of Shafter who passed away May 15, in Bakersfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be said Tuesday, May 18 at 10am at St. Therese's Church. Fr. Pedro Umana will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
