Obituary

Humberto "Bert" Marquez, 83, went to his heavenly home on June 17, 2017. He passed away peacefully in his home with his devoted wife, Pauline, at his side. Bert was born on August 5, 1933 in Los Angeles, California to Fransico and Laura Marquez. He was the oldest of three brothers. Bert was a father to four daughters, a grandfather to 7, a great grandfather, a great-great grandfather, a friend to many and an American hero to all. Bert loved his country and was very proud of his service in the Korean War, for which he was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars POST 6742 and had served in many offices for the organization. Bert leaves behind his loving wife, Pauline; his daughters; and a very large extended family and his fellow comrades. A memorial service was held at Griffith Ave. Baptist Church in Wasco, on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00am. Pastor Bill Lewis officiated the service. Inurnment will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery on Friday, June 30, 2017 beginning at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to V.F.W Post 6742.
