Hortencia Salas, 93, of Arvin, CA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 in her home surrounded by family. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 14, 1926, daughter of the late Jesus Sosa and Cruz Hernandez. She was survived by two siblings, brother Conrado Sosa and sister Maria Luisa Lares along with 8 children, Jesus, Ramon, Alicia, Marisela, Consuelo, Liliana, Jose Antonio and Sergio. She was loved by 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren Hortencia was a homemaker, catholic and devout member of St. Thomas Church where she was President of the Legionnaires of Mary, and a constant volunteer performing church maintenance. Her catholic faith was the center of her life which led her to become a faithful follower of the Virgen Del Carmen, perform many charity acts like visiting the sick, praying the Rosary at funerals, and was often sought out to heal the sick as she was blessed with the gift of healing through prayer. She was known for helping the poor, providing shelter to those in need and was a constant source of comfort and compassion to all who reached out to her. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her extensive family at gatherings and special holidays, her most favorite being Christmas and Mother's Day, and thoroughly enjoyed singing as she was gifted with a beautiful voice. She enjoyed gardening, nature and praying the rosary at noon time every day. She was a loving, caring and thoughtful mother who never missed an opportunity to show us her love. Friends will be received at Peters Funeral Home, 600 Tucker Street in Arvin, CA on Wednesday September 25, 2019 from 6:00-9:00pm. Catholic mass will be held at St. Thomas Church, in Arvin, CA at 10:00am. Burial will follow on Thursday, September 26 at 11:30am graveside at South Kern Cemetery, in Arvin, CA, 15543 So. Vineland Road.
