Hortencia was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to parents, Epifania (Bentancourt) and Francisco Llanas. At a young age Hortencia, along with her parents and sisters, moved to San Juan, Texas where she met Manuel Garza. They eventually married and lived in Texas for a few years before they migrated to Kern County and settled in McFarland. Hortencia was a homemaker, also an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church for a few years. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing and especially having family around her all the time. She will be dearly missed.

Hortencia is survived by her sons, Manuel Garza, Juan Garza, Roy Garza and Gustavo Garza; her daughters, Hortencia Martinez, Estella Cantu, Elizabeth Loza-Best and Irma Marquez; along with 46 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Hortencia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manuel T. Garza; an infant son, Guillermo Garza; her daughter, Rosa Garza; and her son, Francisco Garza.
