Herbert Howell was born in Estherville, Iowa on March 8, 1921 to Oscar C. & Myrtle (Gilson) Howell. He served in the United States Army in Europe from 1941 to 1945 in the Artillery and was awarded numerous medals for outstanding service. Upon completion of military service, he moved to Moline, Illinois where he met his wife Bonnie. Herbert attended Photography School in Santa Barbara, California and he and his wife opened a photography business in Shafter where they did weddings, Shafter High School Yearbook and individual portraits. Herb was 92 years old when he passed away on December 18, 2013 in Bakersfield, California. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. He is survived by nieces: Verna Magnuson, Sandy Vorhees, Wilma Aalderks, Peggy Bandy; nephew Fred Magnuson, and sisters Bonnie and Norma Peck. He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Bonnie Howell. A Graveside service at Shafter Memorial Park is scheduled for Saturday December 21, 2013 at 10am with a viewing scheduled for Friday December 20, 2013 from 4-7pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter.
