Obituary

Helen Mae Neufeld was born on July 22, 1936 to John and Katherine Neufeld in Shafter, California. Helen loved the Lord and shared this joyous love with everyone she met, along with her favorite verse, John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." She was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on February 10, 2012, and today she is celebrating a glorious reunion with her parents, her grandparents, her baby nephew David John Neufeld, and her brother-in-law Eddie Eidsen. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, from 4-7 pm. Graveside services will be held at 10 am Thursday, February 16, at Shafter Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Valley Bible Church in Shafter. A luncheon will be served at the church following the services. Although Helen's life has not been an easy one, she has been a blessing to people she met along the way. After her schooling was complete, she held various positions doing babysitting, housecleaning, recycling, serving milk at a local elementary school cafeteria, and sewing. She especially loved little ones, and volunteered many hours in her church nursery and helping care for her small cousins, nieces and nephews, who remember her huge smile and loving hugs. Her neighbors and friends remember her by the embroidered handwork she made for them with love, and still keep it as a remembrance of her. Helen loved to do crafts, including embroidery and latch hook. She also enjoyed (and was extremely proficient at) word search puzzles. Listening to and singing hymns were other favorite activities. For a time, Helen accompanied her parents to live in the Sebastopol area, but she lived most of her life in the Shafter-Wasco communities, where she was well known as a loyal, hardworking friend. Helen will be missed by her sisters, Esther Eidsen and Mary (and Lloyd) Gardner, and brother, John (and Susan) Neufeld, her nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins, as well as her many friends and care providers. Her positive attitude amidst her suffering has been an inspiration to many. The family would like to say a special thank you to Kern Regional Center, Helen Crawford, and Spring Home for their service, love, and dedication to Helen over the years.
