Helen Naomi Garcia was born March 28, 1925 in Blackford, Webster County, Kentucky one of ten children born to Mary and Alex Newton Jones. The Jones Family moved to Bakersfield in 1944 and Helen married Dan Garcia July 4, 1945. Helen Naomi worked as a sales clerk at Brock's Department Store and then for her sister at Dortha's Fashions for 20 years. Helen's passions were her family, quilting and cooking. Family favorites included her tamales, enchiladas, tortillas and pecan pie. Thanksgiving was always at Helen's home where the food was plentiful. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Dan who passed away in 1976. Surviving family include her sons, Dan Garcia and wife Bonnie of Shafter, David Garcia and wife Barbara of Homer, Alaska and Larry Garcia and wife Lori of Bakersfield; daughter, Jane Jepson of Paso Robles; brothers, Don Jones and wife Donna and Alex Jones and wife Cloteen, all of Fresno; sisters, Dortha Wilson of Lamont and Ethel Harris of Bakersfield; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 24 at 11am at Hillcrest Memorial Park for Helen Naomi Garcia, age, 86, of Shafter who passed away September 17, 2011 in Shafter. Visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter on Friday, September 23 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
