Hector Felix De La Pena was born on October 13, 1937 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Hilario Felix and Maria De La Luz De La Pena. He was raised in a large family with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Hector arrived in Arvin in the early 60's as a farm worker. Hector was very active in the community often encouraging people to vote and to be involved in different political campaigns. Because Hector was a hard worker; he was recruited by Caesar Chavez to help organized farm laborer workers throughout the Valley. Hector worked alongside Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta for over 25 years while encouraging people to get involved in their community. Through his experiences in campaigning with Caesar Chavez; Hector became well informed with various concerns that were happening around the world. He was very educated in various aspects of the news. During that time, he met the love of his life, Juanita Medina. They got married on August 14, 1965. They shared over 50 wonderful years together. Hector and Juanita had 3 beautiful children, Hector Felix, Veronica Felix- Lopez, and Lisette Felix- Gomez. Hector loved baseball especially, watching the Dodgers lose. He enjoyed cooking, yard work, sewing, and ironing his clothes. When he went out; he liked to get dressed for the occasion wearing his best clothing. He enjoyed working around the house fixing anything from the roof to installing new windows. One of the last projects he worked on was fixing the back porch almost 3 months ago. Hector also grew a garden in his backyard and watched it flourish with pomegranates, oranges, tomatoes, chiles, and lemons. Above everything else, Hector loved to spend time with his 9 grandchildren; Vanessa Felix, Kassandra Felix, Javier Felix, Raul Lara Jr., Christian Lara, Victoria Gomez, Luis Jr. Gomez, Isaac Gomez, and Natalia Gomez and 5 great-grandchildren; Lexianna Madera, Sean Madera, Madison Leist, Kendall Leist, and Brady Felix. He loved his family very much and taught his family the values of respect, hard work and family. Hector respected others and he was respected in the community. Hector was a responsible man who took care of his wife and family. He passed away on December 1, 2015. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be officiated by Father Jorge De La Torre on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 10am. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Arvin Funeral Home at 4pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm. Héctor llegó a Arvin en los 60's como un trabajador en agrícoltura. Héctor era muy activo en la comunidad animando a la gente a votar y participio en diferentes campañas políticas. Porque Hector era un buen trabajador; fue reclutado por César Chávez para ayudar y organizar a otros trabajadores de agricultura en el valle. Héctor trabajó junto a César Chávez y Dolores Huerta por más de 25 años ayudando a la comunidad. A través de sus experiencias en diferentes campañas politicas; Héctor llegó a ser bien informado y educado en diversos aspectos de la noticia. Durante ese tiempo, conoció el amor de su vida, Juanita Medina. Se casaron en el 14 de agosto del 1965. Compartieron más de 50 maravillosos años juntos. Hector y Juanita tuvieron 3 hermosos hijos, Hector Felix, Veronica Felix Lopez y Lisette Felix Gomez. Hector disfrutaba béisbol sobre todo, viendo que los Dodgers pierden. El disfrutaba cocinar, trabajo de jardinería, costura y planchado de su ropa. Cuando salió; le gustaba vestirse para la ocasión en su mejor ropa. Disfrutó trabajo alrededor de la casa desde el techo hasta la instalación de nuevas ventanas. Uno de los últimos proyectos que trabajó era fijar el porche trasero hace casi 3 meses. Héctor también creció un jardín en su patio con granadas, naranjas, tomates, chiles y limones. Por encima de todo, Héctor le encantaba pasar tiempo con sus 9 nietos; Vanessa Félix, Kassandra Felix, Javier Felix, Raul Lara Jr., Christian Lara, Victoria Gomez, Luis Jr. Gomez, Isaac Gómez y Natalia Gomez y 5 mis nietos; Lexianna Madera, Sean Madera, Madison Leist, Kendall Leist, and Brady Felix. Amaba a su familia mucho y había enseñado a su familia los valores de respeto, trabajo y familia. Hector respetaba otros y él fue respetado en la comunidad. Hector fue un hombre responsable que tomó el cuidado de su esposa y su familia. Murió el 1 de diciembre del 2015. Una misa de cristiana sepultura será oficiada por el padre Jorge De La Torre el miércoles, 9 de diciembre del 2015 en la iglesia católica St. Thomas a las 10:00am. Una visita se celebrará el martes, 8 de diciembre del 2015 en la funeraria de Arvin a las 4pm con una recitación del Santo Rosario.
