Hattie M. Roberts was born February 3, 1912 in Grand Valley, Oklahoma one of nine children born to Sarah Eliza (Wauson) and Josephus MacGuthric Montgomery. Shortly after Hattie was born the family moved to Missouri, then to Brownfield, Texas. Hattie met her husband George Shellie Rosamond in Brownfield, Texas. Despite their age difference, George was over twenty years her senior, they fell in love and married on April 15, 1929. A year later they were blessed with their only child, Frank Dudley. The family eventually moved to Wasco. George passed away in 1957. Hattie married her second husband William Elan Roberts on October 10, 1960 in Wasco, California with this marriage Hattie was given a very extended family. Bill and Hattie attended First Southern Baptist Church where Bill was a deacon for many years. They went three times each week until Bill could no longer drive. Hattie was a homemaker who loved her family, and was deeply devoted to the Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading the Bible, and visiting friends and family. Hattie Roberts is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, George Rosamond and William Roberts; sons, Frank Rosamond, Charles, Jack, Arlin, and Victor Roberts; daughter, Cathy Terry; brothers, Amos, Jesse, Roy, and Robert Montgomery; sisters, Velma Patterson, Oma Ammons and Attie Gibson; and one infant sibling. Hattie is survived by her daughters, Billie Preston and Nelda Dial; niece, Glenda Greenlee; over 21 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 1 pm at Wasco Memorial Park for Hattie Roberts, age 97, of Wasco, who passed away November 23, 2009. Rev. Bill Lewis of the First Southern Baptist Church will officiate and interment will follow.
