Gracia was born May 27, 1929, on the Root family farm in Wasco, CA. Gracia received her elementary through high school education in Wasco. She graduated from Whittier College with a BA in Early Childhood Education and a Life teaching credential. She returned to Wasco to teach Kindergarten for 30+ years. Gracia was actively involved in the community of Wasco by volunteering for the Wasco Historical Society, Wasco Rose Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Sheriff's Citizen Unit. She was named Teacher of the Year, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Citizen of the Year, and had the honor, along with her sister Donna, as serving as Grand Marshals for the 2000 Wasco Rose Parade. Gracia was also very actively involved in her church, the Shafter Congregational Church. She served on the Mission, Music, Deaconess and Education committee's. She sang tenor in the choir, she taught children's Sunday school, and volunteered in the nursery. She also served faithfully in multiple roles with the Hume Lake Women's Auxiliary. She is survived by her two sisters, Donna Rogers of Wasco, and Sharon (and Richard) Craft of Thornton, Co, and one brother, Gary (and Anne) Giddings of Bakersfield; her two children, Shannon Affleck and Sean Rooney, both of Bakersfield; three nieces, Laura (Rogers) Ahler, Kimberly (Rogers) DeWolf and Robin (Rogers) Dale; three nephews, Scott Rogers, Bill and Jim Giddings; three granddaughters, Seandra (Twin Falls, ID), Jennifer Rooney (Bakersfield) and Hannah Affleck (Fort Worth, TX)l two grandsons, Josh (and Sarah) living in E. Asia and Ben (and Jill) Affleck of Fort Worth, TX; two great-grand children, Nathan and Emily Affleck; and seven grandnephews, Cameron, Darian, Kitrick, Erik and Lucas Ahler, Aaron DeWolf, and Grant Rogers and one grand-niece, Miriam DeWolf. Her dearly beloved parents, Hattie and Sterling Giddings, and greatly loved brother-in-law, Jack Rogers preceded her in death. Celebration Services for Gracia Giddings Wedel will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2008, at 3pm at the Congregational Church, 430 E. Tulare St. Shafter, CA, under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
