Obituary

Gilbert Bertram Webb was born on April 11, 1939 in Durham, North Carolina. He was adopted the next day by Gilbert and Lizzi Webb who welcomed his sister Linda 2 years later. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Watsonville, CA where his father was a floral grower. Bert had a Jesuit education, first attending Notre Dame Grammar School in Watsonville and then Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose where he boarded through high school. He attended the University of California, San Francisco, where due to unfortunate family circumstances he left after only one year. He went on to attend Hartnell College where he met his future bride, Linda. After a two-year engagement, Bert Webb married Linda Nesler on May 1, 1960 in the First Methodist Church of Morgan Hill. Bert proceeded to work with his father in the family flower business until he enlisted in the Army, where he served 3 years. After leaving the Army, Bert started his career in banking. Bert worked for Bank of the West and First National Bank and retired from World Savings after 35 years as a Vice President in the Real Estate Mortgage business. In 1967, Bert and Linda welcomed their first child, Jason Gilbert, moving shortly thereafter to San Jose. In 1972, they welcomed their second child, Stephanie Lynne. Bert took an active involvement with both children's' activities and interests. Bert and Linda retired together in May of 2003. During their retirement, Bert and Linda loved to travel and took many trips with Linda's sister Sandy and her husband Ben. Bert loved spending time with his five grandsons. He also greatly enjoyed the annual men's hunting trip with family and attending car shows and races with his son. Bert took great pride in working in his yard, and enjoyed reading, listening to music, and was an avid Porsche enthusiast. Bert passed away on January 24, 2018 in Shafter California at his daughter's home after a valiant fight with Pancreatic Cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Linda, his son Jason (daughter-in-law Suzan), daughter Stephanie Bloemhof (son-in-law David Bloemhof) and five grandsons: Matthew, Christian, David, Nathan, and Stephen. He also leaves behind his sister Linda Webb Ruiz (husband Gilbert Ruiz), sister-in-law Sandy Mazzone (husband Ben Mazzone), sisters-in-law Denise Nesler and Olivia Nesler and numerous nieces and nephews. Bert was loved, respected and honored by all who knew him. He always had a kind word and a positive thought for those around him. Words cannot express how much he was loved and how much he will be missed. We are thankful he is whole again and spending eternity with his loving savior, Jesus Christ.
