Gerry was born on August 25, 1923 to Iva (Hunt) and J.D. LaFever in Bryan, Coal County, Oklahoma. She married J.B. Harris July10, 1937 and they came to California via Texas in the late forties; first to Mettler then settling in Wasco. Gerry worked as a lab tech for Bioferm and was also employed with Heinrichs Department Store in Wasco. After retiring Gerry & J.B. moved to Arroyo Grande but returned to Shafter in 2001. Some of Gerry's favorite pastimes included, camping when she was younger, creating many crafts, playing spades and dominos. Both Gerry and J.B. had a special heart and care for anyone that needed assistance, especially seniors. They are members of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters; son, Bernie Harris in 1997; 2 grandsons, Marty Harris in 2007 and Rick Harris in 2009. She is survived by her husband, J.B. of 71 years; daughter, Linda Nixon and husband Jerry; grandson, Bryan Nixon and wife Tonya; daughter-in-law, Diane Harrison and husband Bob; granddaughter-in-law, Susie Harris; six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Caitlin, Colton, Clayton, Bryleigh and Jace. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Geraldean Harris, age 85, of Shafter who passed away February 5, in Bakersfield. Pastor Pat Coyle of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, February 9, 2009 from 6-8pm at Peters Funeral Home Chapel.
