Gerald "Jerry" Unruh was born January 14, 1985, and passed away March 8, 2014, at the age of 29 years. Jerry was born and raised in Shafter, CA where he attended Rio Bravo Greeley and Shafter High School before attending and graduating from Liberty High School in 2003. For the past 10 years Jerry worked all over the US doing Heavy Equipment Demolition, before making his home with Sturgeon and Sons, Inc. as a Construction Supervisor in McKittrick, CA. Jerry enjoyed singing Karaoke, living the country life on his mini farm, and barbecuing with friends & family. As a true Chiver, Jerry was a firm believer in Random Acts of Kindness, and was known for having a big and loving heart. No matter the setting or the crowd, when Jerry walked into the room, everyone was happier for it. When he left, there was never sadness, only excitement in anticipation for the next time we'd get to see him. Jerry is survived by his parents Don & Dora Gatlin of Bakersfield, Ron & Malise Unruh of Shafter, sister and brother-in-law Mark & Christie Chambless, nephew & niece Samuel Ryan & Lucy Kate, grandparents Doris Unruh, Fred & Linda Starrh, Deena Schaefer, great grandma Lois Parks of Shafter, and his many brothers and sisters in and out of the Chive Nation. In lieu of flowers, the donations may be made to Jerry's Relay for Life Team at www.relayforlife.org. A funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Shafter will be held Friday, March 14 at 10am at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church for Gerald Roy Unruh, age 29, of McKittrick who passed away March 8, 2014 in rural Bakersfield. Pastors Brent Cummings and Pat Coyle will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
