George William
Wise
February 6, 1940 – November 26, 2017
George was born February 6, 1940 in North Augusta, South Carolina to Bill and Louise Wise. He peacefully passed away November 26, 2017 in Shafter CA, surrounded by his loving family in his home. George lived in Trenton, South Carolina until 15 years of age, when his mother remarried W.B. Camp and moved to Bakersfield, CA. He attended Bakersfield High School, where he wrestled, graduating in 1958. He then attended Clemson University in South Carolina, where he was part of the Pershing Rifle Team and an avid Clemson Football fan, graduating with a B.S. in horticulture in 1962. After Clemson he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo receiving a Masters Degree in Ag. Education, in 1971. George married Meg Littlejohn, from Gaffney, South Carolina on August 24, 1968. They made their home in McFarland, CA where George farmed for five years. After farming he spent four years in Ag. Education teaching at Wasco and Shafter High Schools in the early 70s. In 1976, George left Ag to pursue what would become his life long career opening Wise Realty and Construction in Shafter, CA. George loved his community. He spent many years serving in Shafter Rotary, Shafter City Counsel and singing in the church choir. He was a workaholic, loved riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and his tomato garden. Georges two favorite things were his grandkids and Clemson Football. Go Tigers! George is survived by his loving wife Meg of 49 years, son, Geordy Wise (Debbie) of Shafter, daughter, Marlou Janzen (Joey) of Bakersfield, Grandchildren, Ashleigh, Keeley and Reed Janzen, Emily and Ellie Wise; Sister, Addie Louise Segars of Sumter, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Camp Cory. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield, 1705 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301, with a reception to follow.
