Obituary

George M. Lee died March 18, 2011 at the age of 93 at Bakersfield Heart Hospital. He was the oldest child of Jessie Evans and Rosie Lea (Allen) Lee, born July 26, 1917 in Hilop, Tennessee. During World War II he served in the Army Medical Corp where he became Staff Sergeant. He was a life-time member of American Legion. He married Velma Leola (Wilkenson) November 19, 1945 in Fort Smith Arkansas. They moved to Wasco in 1948 where George worked as a butcher for several years, then became custodial supervisor at Wasco Union High School until he retired. George loved talking about his hobo days as a young man. George M. Lee is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma; brothers, Cordell, Raymond and James Lee; sisters, Modell Rice and Etmo Alexander. He is survived by his sister Gracie Cotter of Wasco along with 12 nieces and 4 nephews. Graveside service will be held on Friday March 25, at 10am at Wasco Memorial Park for George M. Lee of Wasco. Pastor Jack Stewart will officiate the service and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 24 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
