George E. "Papa" Douglas May 14, 1929 - February 23, 2011 George was born in Kinta Oklahoma to George Benjamin and Toby D. In the early 1930's the family migrated to California during the dust bowl and settled in Wasco. George attended Wasco High and graduated in 1948. In 1951 he married his high school sweet heart Betty. In 1953 he was drafted into the Army where he served his country in Berlin as a Staff Sergeant. He later joined Mobil Oil where he worked for over 33 years. He was recognized as Wasco's Man of the Year for his leadership in building Wasco's first Little League Park that still stands today. He was a prominent citizen in the Wasco community; a member of the housing committee and Masonic Lodge, and actively involved with the Westside Family Fellowship. George was an amazing man; everyone who knew him loved and respected him. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty; daughter Robin and husband David; son George and wife Sarah; grandchildren David and wife Sara, Seth and girlfriend Chanel, Natalie, Deanna and Sarah Beth; great grandchildren Dylan, Allison, Sofia and Johnnie. Funeral services will be held Monday February 28, 2011 at 11:30am at the Westside Family Fellowship in Wasco. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 27 from 2pm - 8pm at Peters Funeral Home. Interment is private at Wasco Memorial Park.
