Born November 22, 1939, Gary Brian Wilson died October 12, 2013 in Bakersfield, CA. Raised on a family farm; he enjoyed the independence and freedom of a farm kid. He attended Shafter schools, graduating from Shafter High in 1957. From there he went to UC Berkeley, and later graduated from UC Davis in 1962 in Agricultural Engineering. While at Davis, he met his soul mate, Patricia Pensar of Sonoma, and married her in 1961. After a brief stint at Ford Ord, they made their home in Shafter, California. It was here that they raised three daughters. Together they traveled, enjoying friends, good food and wine Gary first joined his father and brother farming, but ventured out on his own in 1969 to form Wilson Ag. His deep love of iron led him to diversify into custom farming. He was a pioneer of mechanical grape harvest and mechanical grape pruning. Over the years, Gary served on many boards. He did love to work, but he did love cars… old, new, loud and fast. His favorite job was the education of his seven grandchildren. He taught the fifth generation of farmers about his family heritage and farming legacy. They did have a lot of Pa adventures along the way. Gary once said he lived a life with no regrets. He was survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat, his daughters Aarin Wilson, Michele McManus (Jim), and Jill Tallec (Christian); his grandchildren Taylor Jensen (Davin), Mallory and Wilson Hansard, Michael and Joseph McManus, and Bryan and Scott Tallec; his brother Stan Wilson (Nancy). Many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends he had through out his life. He is also survived by his second family at Wilson Ag. He was preceded by his parents, Harlin and Elma Wilson, and grandchildren, Paige and Sam Hansard. A celebration of life will be held at Wilson Ag's Headquarters on October 26, 2013 at 11 am.
