Garnett Edith Austin, 96. A service for Garnett Edith Austin, a 35-year resident of Yucca Valley, will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 12 at Wiefels and Son Funeral Home in Yucca Valley. A graveside service will be held Feb. 13 at Rose Hills in Whittier. Mrs. Austin died Feb. 7, 2009, at Hi-Desert Medical Center. She was 96 years old. The daughter of Rollie Albert Robbins and Nola Frances Wilcox, she was born in Clarkson, Iowa, Feb. 18, 1912. She lived in California 76 years. Mrs. Austin was married 42 years to Carol Chester Austin. A homemaker, she was "Grandma" to those who knew her, and raised her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Austin is survived by grandchildren Lee Austin of Bellflower, Lynn Angeles and husband Ernie of Huntington Beach, Linda Gardiner of Bellflower, Sean Austin and wife LeeAnn of Vacaville and Cynthia Camp and husband Joel of Yucca Valley; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-gandchildren. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be made to the March of Dimes.
