Fred was born May 18, 1936 in Wade, Oklahoma to J.W. Whitworth and Elsie Hawkins Whitworth.

He was raised in Wade until he was 10 years old and the family moved to Wasco, California in 1946. He attended Wasco Elementary School and then Wasco High School where he played basketball and was president of the student body. After graduating he attended Point Loma Nazarene College for one year. He then entered the United States Army. When he came home on a leave he met Joan Carter, the "Love of his life". They were married January 1956 and they were married for 66 years. After several years of ill health, he went home to his Savior. The grandchildren, his wife and children were able to tell him goodbye before his death.

He is survived by his wife and their three children, Dennis, Craig and Tawny and son-in-law Gene. Their seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. His sister, Carol and brother Jerry.
