Fred L. West, Jr. was born December 25, 1952 in Delano, California; one of five children born to Winifred (Schofield) and Fred West, Sr. He started his education in Wasco and continued on to graduate with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration from University of California Berkley and worked as a certified public accountant for his father and then established his own firm, Fred West, Jr., CPA. Fred West was honored recently for his many years of service to the entire community of Wasco. He has been a great leader, servant, and contributor to the City of Wasco for decades and is a wonderful citizen of our great city. He served in various positions on the Wasco Chamber of Commerce starting with being elected treasurer at his first meeting in 1974. He served on the Wasco Scholarship Board from 1983 until 1989. He was also a member of the Exchange Club; serving as President in 1984 and was their treasurer for many years. Fred served on the City of Wasco planning commission from 1983-1988. He ran for Wasco City Council in 1988, was mayor 4 times, and has been on city council for 24 years; he stepped down in 2000 for 2 years, and then got back on board. Fred joined the Rotary Club and was appointed President 3 years later. Fred has also been a member of the Wasco Elks Lodge for 28 years. He is the treasurer of the Wasco High Hall of Fame and is a charter board member. He served as a LAFCO commissioner from 2012-2014 serving as president his final year. He was very proud to serve with distinguished persons including two county supervisors. Fred did not like to be lauded, but the community of Wasco honors and thanks him for his many years of devotion. Fred is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kay (Rupert) West; children, Matthew West and wife Ashlee, Lindsey and husband Jason McGuire, Courtney and husband Joel Van Horn; brother, Wendell West and wife Shirley; sisters, Marilyn Tarbox, Suzanne and husband Dick Stagg; and sister-in-law, Linda Poff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Winifred; a brother, Joe West. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 13 at 10am at Grace Community Church, 1544 7th St, Wasco for Fred West Jr., age 62, of Wasco who passed away March 10, 2015 in Bakersfield. Pastor Pat Coyle will officiate the service and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 12 from 4pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
