Frank Brown Preston went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2013. Frank was born on January 27, 1926, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Ernest Ray and Virginia Lee Preston. Frank and his family moved to California in 1943. Frank served his country in the United States Navy in the South Pacific from 1944-1946. Frank married the love of his life, Elva Lee Thompson, on February 23, 1948. On April 2, 1956, he opened Preston Tire Service, a career that would make him a fixture in the city of Shafter. Frank trusted Christ as his Savior in 1950 and was subsequently baptized by the Lost Hills Missionary Baptist Church. He was later ordained as a deacon and served faithfully in Missionary Baptist churches in Shafter and in Bakersfield. At the time of his death, Frank was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Bakersfield. In addition to his faith, tires, and family, Frank enjoyed racing, fishing, and the Lakers. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Virginia Preston, brothers Coby Preston, Arthur Preston, and George Preston, son Larry Preston, daughter Linda Anderson, and grandson Robby Anderson. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Elva Preston of Shafter, daughter Kathy Preston of Shafter, granddaughter Lisa Langley of Bakersfield, grandson Jeff Anderson of Bakersfield, granddaughter Kristen Coats of Bakersfield, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 17, at 10am, at the Shafter Memorial Park.
