IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank Alvin
Long
April 27, 1929 – August 1, 2009
Frank Long met his Redeemer on Saturday, August 1st, 2009 after an unexpectedly short battle with cancer. He died at home surrounded by his family and as he wished, in the loving embrace of his wife Margaret. Frank was born on April 27th, 1929 in Hemet, California. He graduated from Biola College and later earned his Masters in Education from Redlands University. In 1950, he married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Greenlee, who preceded him in death in 2002. He & Dorothy were married 52 years and had 4 children: Dennis Long (Marcy) of Pismo Beach, Diane Goodchild, Debbie Gafner (Randy), & Donna Schoen (Rocky) of Bakersfield. In 1962, he moved his family to Wasco where he taught middle school for 30 years. Former students would frequently recognize him and say "Hi Mr. Long!" He was a hunter and a master wood craftsman. He could make anything out of wood, from carving intricate animals to building beautiful furniture. He had a passion for studying scripture and recently wrote an in depth Bible study on Heaven that he shared with his family. He was a humble man who spent wisely, lived honestly, and loved generously. He married Margaret Fonseca in 2003 and had 6 blissful years with his sweetie. They were incredibly happy and packed a lifetime of love in a short time. He was thrilled to gain his step-family: Marie Duran (Danny); Becky Rocha (Paul); Adele Martin (Bill); June DiMaggio; Bates Fonseca; and Ann Stevens (Scott); and their children and grandchildren. Frank and Dorothy's grandchildren include Brianna and Rissa Durham; Holli, Sean, Heather and Randy Gafner; Sandy, Danny, Timmy and Cassie Reiswig; Tracy, Olivia and Tara Long; and 20 great grandchildren. Waiting for him in Heaven are many family members including one precious grandson, Gregory. Frank's family invites you to celebrate his life at a graveside service at 10:00am on Thursday August 6th, 2009 at Wasco Memorial Park on the corner of Hwy 46 and Leonard Avenue. A reception will follow at 3108 Redwood Forrest Way, Bakersfield, California 93314. "Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain." Proverbs 30:7-9
