Graveside services were held Monday, September 14, 2015, at Wasco Memorial Park for Francis Ellen Martin of Wasco. Francis was born on May 29, 1925. She was the third of seven children born to William Nelson and Carrie Mae McGoon in Niangua, Missouri. When Francis was a young girl her family moved from Missouri to Oklahoma. It was here that she met and married the love of her life Roy Eugene Martin. They married on December 19, 1942. They had two of their four children, a son Wallace Eugene (whom she lost several years ago) and a daughter Sarah Ann Martin. The family moved to Richmond, California, where Roy worked in the shipyards as a welder and Francis held down the fort at home. After the war, they moved to Rawlins, Wyoming, where Roy was badly burned in a gas station fire. Francis cared lovingly for him and their two young children. When Roy recovered, he and Francis settled in Wasco, California, where Roy had family. Here they had two more children, a son, Roy Lynn Martin, and a daughter, Penny (Martin) Morris. Roy and Francis took care of each other until they were separated by Roy's death on July 4, 2002 after 60 years together. In May, Francis celebrated her 90th birthday and loved every minute of it surrounded by her family. Francis loved to collect things, especially owl figurines. She was an extremely crafty person. She was well known for making quilts and toys, which she thoughtfully gave away to those she knew. She loved shopping with her grandchildren and had a laugh like music. Francis had a daily coffee meet with lifelong friend and neighbor Nellie Serda, so they could stay current on the "goings on" in each other's lives and of course the neighborhood. Francis is survived by a brother, Willis McGoon, a sister, Louella Hoard (Susie) and her husband Frank, one son, two daughters, daughters-in-law, Emma and Carmen Martin, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband Roy and son Wallace "Gene", she was preceded in death by sisters Rosella McGoon and Wilma Walters, brothers Wallace and Marvin McGoon, and grandson Chad Eric Turner. Francis touched many lives during her 90 years of life. She will be missed and remembered by those lucky enough to have known her.
