Obituary

Frances was born in Bakersfield on Oct 5, 1923, to Maximo and Josepha Rivera Torres. She lived the first 50 years of her life here and was well known in the Restaurant/Lounge field. She owned and operated The Valencia's on Nineteenth Street and The Satellite on California Avenue. She was lounge manager for many years at Maison Jaussaud's on So. Union Street. Later she owned Valencia's Mexican Food in Huntington Beach. She departed life on March 24th in Troy, Ohio, where she had recently moved to be with her son. Frances loved to cook and left many special recipes for her family. She also was an accomplished seamstress and had a special knack for decorating. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a special niece, Patricia Seibert, and a grandniece, Kandice Pierson. She is survived by her son, Vincent J Valencia III, and daughter-in-law, Bonny of Troy, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Lupe and Philip Tovar; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Manuel and Linda Torres, and Mark and Esther Torres, all of Bakersfield; nieces Deborah, Valerie, Laurie and nephews Keith, Jerome, Mark Jr, Maximo, and Tim. She also leaves many grand nieces and nephews and friends in Bakersfield. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010 – 10am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and entombment immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd. Hopson-Anspach will host a chapel visitation Wednesday, March 31, from 5 to 8pm with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm.
