Florence Lucille Bartell Dick was born July 18, 1928 in Bakersfield, California to Henry and Selma Bartell and went to be with her Savior, Jesus, on October 18, 2013. Florence was Henry and Selma's third child. She had an older brother Ruben, sister Lula Mae and younger brothers Clarence, Lawson and Henry Lee. Her family lived and farmed in the Rosedale area. She graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1946. While going to Pacific Bible Institute in Fresno, California she met James (Jim) Dick and they fell in love and married on September 12, 1947 in the First Baptist Church on Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield. They were blessed with a daughter, Judy, in 1951 and a son Ken, in 1953. In 1964 Florence began her career in education for the Rosedale Union School District. She retired in June, 1994. Jim and Florence lived in Bakersfield for 55 years and the last 7 years they lived in Reedley, California. Florence is survived by her husband, Jim Dick; daughter, Judy and husband Chet Pohle; son, Ken Dick and wife Diana; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence (Bart) Bartell. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 9:30 am at Shafter Memorial Park.
