Florence Lorene Bittle, age 93, passed away on Thursday September 2, 2010. She was born in Augusta, Ar. on September 14, 1916 to Ernest and Thelma (Dove) Wilson. Florence was a Shafter resident for 67 years. Florence was married to Goldman Bittle on May 31, 1934 in Heber Springs Ar. She was known for her beautiful collection of quilts and her quilting talents, as well as the caring love she showed to others; she spent much of her life caring for her disabled son Lester. She worked as the church secretary for the Pentecostal Church of God (Jesus Saves Church) and was even named the "Church Mother," at one point. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Goldman; son, Lester; a great-grandson, Jonathan Baldwin; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Bittle. She is survived by her children, Harold and wife Billie Bittle, Naomi and husband Gene Baldwin, David and wife Monica Bittle, Norma and husband Cecil Carter, and Dale Bittle; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; as well as one brother, Edward Dove. Funeral services will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, beginning at 11:00a.m. Pastor Steve Seymour will officiate. Viewing will begin at 9:00a.m. on the same date.
