Flora Ruth (Townsend) Tolbert was born May 2, 1924 in New Mexico to Mr. and Mrs. Chester Townsend. The family moved from New Mexico to Colorado then Arizona before settling in California. Flora married Elmer E. Ledbetter in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1958. Flora later married Harold Tolbert and he preceded her in death in 1990. Flora served her family as a homemaker and also cared for Harold when his health failed. She and Harold loved to travel and were able to visit many of the states, including Yellowstone National Park, Arizona and Missouri. Flora did all the driving in their van. Flora is survived by her children Elmer Floyd Ledbetter of Shafter, Delmer Lloyd Ledbetter and wife Lynett of Utah, Richard Everett Ledbetter of Shafter, Ruth Mae Burch and Wanda Rose Perritt and husband Carl, all of Oklahoma and Patricia Ann Scott of Atwater; son-in-law, Charles Scott; sister, Ada Settle of Texas; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 siblings, her husbands and 1 grandson, Roger Burch. A memorial service will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 3 at 2pm for Flora Ruth Tolbert, age 83, of Shafter who passed away September 29, 2007 in Bakersfield. Pastor Jim Glasco of the Seventh Standard Pentecostal Church of God will officiate the service and interment will be private
